The city budget proposed by Mayor Curry is current

The city budget proposed by Mayor Curry is currently under review by City Council, and if approved, will include an over $37 million dollar increase to JSO’s already excessive budget.

We reject the Mayor’s proposal and instead encourage the city to adopt a People’s Budget, which would cap JSO’s budget at 25% of our city budget. This releases city funds for new and existing initiatives that will actually service our community, as a wider access to social, healthcare, and other services is consistently proven to reduce rates of crime, whereas JSO is clearly incapable of doing so.

Join us this coming Tuesday for our monthly meeting to learn more about the #PeoplesBudgetNow campaign and how you can get involved! Contact your city council person and tell them you oppose criminalizing poverty and to vote NO on the bloated JSO budget!

ICYMI:

City council is considering and ordinance to further criminalize poverty by way of fines and possible arrests for both drivers and “panhandlers”.

Join us at city council today at 5 PM to speak out against this unjust ordinance as well as demand a #PeoplesBudgetNow. Instead of our elected officials brainstorming ways to further develop entrench our community into the (in)justice system, they should be working for us by introducing caps to JSOs budget, more funding for mental health resources, rent stabilization, and more.

SPEAK OUT AT CITY COUNCIL! All across Jacksonville

SPEAK OUT AT CITY COUNCIL!
All across Jacksonville- from our local business owners, to working families, and single income households- there is a rental crisis where we are at the mercy of the landlords in the face of 400% rental increases.

Jacksonville saw the highest rate of rental increase in THE NATION during 2021, a rate of 31%. Almost 50% of Jacksonville renters are spending more than 30% of their income on rent, while 23% is spending greater than 50% of their income on rent.

What else is on the up and up? JSOs budget. JSO is now asking for a $38 million dollar increase- a $540 million dollar budget- while our residents are seeing no support from our city to ensure we’re able to remain residents!

This is not normal and we should not accept it. Fund affordable housing, not police!

Join us alongside @flrising next Tuesday, 8/9 at 5 PM to make it clear that we will no longer accept this status quo!
